The annual Ale Tasting and Bread Weighing procession through Ashburton on July 19 2025, was a packed event as the Portreeve and Master Bailiff made their way through the ancient Dartmoor Stannary Town. Ashburton has had a Portreeve since 820AD. You can read more about it here. Our Ale was declared ‘Good’ by the Ale Tasters which we were very pleased about. It must be true because the Old Exeter Inn has been in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide for 25 years.

The real Landlord of the Old Exeter Inn, David Hattersley welcomes John Germon to the Old Exeter Inn in this next video. John is a former Portreeve and a well known Ashburtonian. A superb local photographer and also the BBC’s ‘Voice of Devon’. Learn Devon dialect John’s way!
